WordPress and rel="external nofollow"

I've just noticed that WordPress has rel="nofollow" set by default for comments.

rel="nofollow" was a good idea by the search engines to prevent spam. I just don't like the idea of there being no option to enable or disable it in WordPress.

Anyway, I've installed a plugin called 'DoFollow' and that seems to have corrected the problem :)

Challenge: Create a Social Networking Site in 4 days

I plan to create a fully functioning social networking website within 4 days and I will be blogging about it, in full, right here.

Starting tomorrow I’m going to start working on the site. I don’t yet have a name or ‘theme’ so I’ll have a think about that tonight; which should give me about 5 hours to come up with a name, idea and domain name (uh oh)

I’ll be posting updates throughout the next 4 days with working examples, screenshots, logos, details of functionality, discussing problems I encounter and details of amount of code written.

The site’s going to be tag-based, which is something I’ve never done before. It’s all going to be coded in Classic ASP, using mySQL for the database.

Expect a blog post tomorrow detailing the nature of the site and the first plan.

Some quick answers to questions:

Why am I doing this? Just an experiment, and as I’ve previously mentioned I’m close to finishing my ‘concert related’ website and would like a bit of a challenge. I’m sure I read over the weekend how surprised people are that these types of sites are popping up so quickly, and it made me curious as to how long it would actually take.

Why four days? Gives me until Friday night to finish it! I don’t want it eating in to pub hours ;)

I don’t plan on making any money from this, it’s just an experiment… and I like them!

If you want any more details or have any questions, just comment. Wish me good luck!

David Bowie Turns 60!

This post hardly fits in with my other posts; it’s not really about AdSense, my work or technology. Although saying that, Mr Bowie was a bit of a pioneer in the early days of the Internet.

New Blogger Allows Custom Domain Names

The new version of Blogger now lets the users of the service host their blog on a custom domain.

Of course, users could have done this in the past with Blogger's FTP publishing service, but this will make the process a lot simplier. There's also other advantages that are detailed over at the blogger buzz blog.
