New AdSense Ad Unit/Link Unit Combo

Over the past couple of days I've been noticing, on Gig Lovers, Google testing a new type of Ad Unit.

AdSense Ad Unit/Link Unit Combination

It seems to be a combination of the regular Ad Unit and a Link Unit as you can see by the screen cap to the right. I like the idea - you get the best of both worlds ;)

The URLs appear to be different than usual, with the target "javascript:gurl('long_id_here')" - obviously a sign of Google testing and analysing the clicks.

It would be interesting to see if these new ad units increase CPM and I'm hoping Google will let us have the option to use them sometime soon so I can get relevant channels set up and report back my findings.

I've seen these and I am not a great fan of them tbh. it means that people will have to click two things before you get any $$ :(

I've noticed that on my site too the last couple of days. I thought my new design was causing some kind of problem with how the banner displays, so I'm glad I caught your article.

If this helps increase our earnings i am fine with it. but this seems as if it will only make life more difficult for us the publishers.
