New AdSense Ad Unit/Link Unit Combo

Over the past couple of days I've been noticing, on Gig Lovers, Google testing a new type of Ad Unit.

AdSense Ad Unit/Link Unit Combination

It seems to be a combination of the regular Ad Unit and a Link Unit as you can see by the screen cap to the right. I like the idea - you get the best of both worlds ;)

The URLs appear to be different than usual, with the target "javascript:gurl('long_id_here')" - obviously a sign of Google testing and analysing the clicks.

It would be interesting to see if these new ad units increase CPM and I'm hoping Google will let us have the option to use them sometime soon so I can get relevant channels set up and report back my findings.

Facebook on the iPhone

A Facebook engineer has posted news of the new, specially designed, Facebook web interface for the iPhone.

I have to say it does look impressive and I am struggling couldn't find a bad word about it anywhere.

It's all very easily browsed with the navigation at the top with a sliding horizontal scroll between them.

The new iPhone interface can be accesed by browsing over to http://iphone.facebook.com while those of us without such a device can still head over to http://m.facebook.com on our mobiles.

Personally, I can live without accessing Facebook from my phone.  I think, like the iPhone itself,  it's a neat toy but it's not something I'd use on a regular basis - the Nokia N95 is more useful anyway ;)

Former AllOfMp3.com Owner Found Not Guilty

The former owner of the infamous AllOfMp3, Denis Kvasov, was today found not guilty of copyright infringement and so no longer faces a lengthy prison spell.

The site, which had an estimated revenue of US$30 million a year, priced downloads at $0.03 per megabyte causing outrage from Western countries and companies (from Visa to the RIAA).

It seems another site, mp3sparks.com, which popped up back in April is run by the same team.

Watch Live Football On Your PC – FREE

The new football (Soccer) season kicks off in England today.

Blackpool Kit 2007/2008The wait is finally over and, due to last years glorious play off final win, my team (Blackpool) will start the season in the Championship - their highest level of football for 20 years.

As I’m in a football mood I thought I’d let unaware readers in on the fact they can watch a lot of games broadcast throughout the world online, and for free. Including a lot of Premier League, Champions League and UEFA cup games.

Where Can I Watch Live Football?

There are a number of free football sites with schedules of upcoming games. My personal choice would be Live-Footy.org.

The site gives you a list of upcoming matches. To view the game click you must click on the 'Stream' link. This will give you a bit more information on the software required for you to watch that particular match.

In most cases, the software you'll need will be 'SopCast' which can be downloaded from the SopCast website. Alternatively, you might find that the SopCast website is very slow, so it's worth noting that the 'Stream' page (on Live-Footy.org) generally contains alternative, often faster, download links.

Once you've installed the required software you'll probably have to restart your browser.

Now you should be able to watch the games from your PC - in a browser window or in Windows Media Player by clicking the 'External Window' button(in the bottom right hand corner).

MP3 Worm Virus - Deletes Your MP3's

If you see this, don’t download and run itNews of the virus W32.Deletemusic has been doing the rounds recently and has gotten conspiracy theorists all excited.

It’s a virus that searches your hard drive and any other attached devices for MP3 files and immediately deletes them.

The first instance of the virus was spotted only a couple of weeks ago with an anonymous infectee declaring “Oh god, it’s taken me 30 days, 24/7, to download all those albums” – poor bloke.

Symantec says the threat level is low and removal easy so I can't see it being too much of a problem, interesting concept though.

So, was the virus created by the RIAA in response to declining music sales or by a spotty 15 year old who just hates the world? I guess we’ll never know.
